Dreams About Tornadoes

A tornado is classified as, localized, violently destructive windstorm occurring over land, and characterized by a long, funnel-shaped cloud extending toward the ground and made visible by condensation and debris. So why would you dream of tornado? (see covid 19 symbolism)

Dreaming of a tornado could be a forewarning implying a bumpy disturbances ahead.  These dreams often represent an uncontrollable or unpredictable outside force that will show up without much warning.  This is a threat that has happened already or something that is building up in the near future.

Dreams often speak to us in coded language using metaphors and symbols to represent something in our lives. The tornado is a warning as it has developed along your path, what happens and how you react to this threat mirrors the outcome.

  • a short but powerful disturbance
  • emotional build up
  • something that is out of control
  • unable to predict the movements
  • short lived but destructive
  • internal or external turmoil

Tornado Dream Meaning

Tornadoes have the ability to wreak havoc in a town by destroying houses, businesses and sometimes death. The damage is so severe that people end up losing their homes and livelihood. Houses in dreams are often connected to the mind of the dreamer – surviving the tornado is a good omen suggesting you will overcome this problem.

Whenever we encounter a destructive force from the outside, either a tornado, hurricane or storm it suggests an emotional upheaval. This might be something that is not caused by you, but by other people around you. This tornado might be a threat to you as it has the ability to attack and destroy your home (psyche).

_83647612_tornado

Another way of looking at this dream would be more of an internal symbol of self destruction. The unpredictability of a tornado forms fast and leaves quick. This might be a quick sudden change that will disrupt your path in life. This can be related to work, relationship or parts of your ego/self that might be in danger.

These events might occur can leave you very defenseless as it is a force that can’t be controlled.  You might not be able to control aspects in your life such as moods or a sudden change of emotions. These dreams are good indications that you might want to investigate your emotions and what destruction it causes.

Understanding The Tornado Dreams

The meanings of dreams can switch entirely depending on the context of the dream. A tornado can be a tricky symbol that might not necessarily mean a negative translation. Sometimes a sudden change or a destructive force knocks over the old, so the new can start to rebuild.

Understanding how you felt in your dream is how you will manage this upcoming problem. Where your safe or had feelings of vulnerability? The location of where you where when the tornado started is a clue where the threat might be pointing at.

Stuck In A Tornado Dream

Sometimes we dream of a tornado picking us up against our will and flinging us around at high speeds and lots of rubbish.  Dreams of this nature suggest you might be taken against your will by someone or something which is very powerful.  This might allude to your emotions or mental state of mind.

Running Or Hiding Dream

Dreams of running or hiding from a tornado brings your attention to what you are avoiding.  It might suggest you will be avoiding danger that might be out of your control.  Depending the context of the dream might have a negative or positive connotation.

Surviving The Tornado Dream

There are positive aspects to this dream when you survive the destructive force.  You had the ability to protect yourself and now it is time to build anew. You would be able to endure this quick and powerful force that could have killed you.

These could be good symbols that you might have been able to overcome or let go of your repressed feelings. These emotions come to the surface for you to be aware of its danger so you can handle it accordingly.  If anybody was with you during the tornado will help give you insight to whom might it effect as well.

Quick Hints:

  • increased level of stress
  • inability to see a destructive from around you
  • anger and emotional upheaval
  • mood or emotional fluctuation
  • break ups or ending of what used to be
  • fears of losing protection
  • knock down the old so new can rebuild
  • unconscious shadows.

Tornado Dream & Destruction

Take into consideration the aftermath of a tornado when it is gone. It has the ability to destroy anything in its path and that means anything that might be associated with you.  A need to rebuild after the damage. Alternately destruction could be a positive symbol as you might be building the new. Fires that come with the tornado shows the destructive force that might reflect the shadow side of the dreamer.

Tornado Dream: The Warning

Dreaming of a Tornado warning might be suggest either theirs is an actually tornado warning advisory, or you might be bracing from some emotional impact.  Most people can have precognitive dreams or psychic dreams that might calculated disaster to come in your town or city. However, unless you are living in an area or path of tornadoes it might be connected to unconscious fears.

Lightening & Thunder

Observing lightning and thunder in your dream is a symbol that shouldn’t be overlooked.  To understand a proper interpretation of the dream one must reflect on the location where this is happening and who is around you at the time it happened.

Usually lightning can have a both positive and negative interpretation but when followed by a tornado it’s usually donates to a warning.

We are unable to control the weather so this might be an outside force heading your way with a bang.  Being hit by lighting you will be affected by what will come your way.  If you escaped than you will have missed whatever came your way.

Your house sometimes suggests your own mind/psyche so it’s important to know where in the house where you and if anything happened.

Hail Storm Dream

When you see hail in your dream you might want to head for cover to protect yourself. The fluctuations in temperature from warm to cold might be related to sudden cold emotions. This could be whatever force that will come towards you unexpected so be prepared.

Wind Storm Dream

Hurricanes usually are accompanied by wind so this is the first warning sign. If you noticed wind in the dream there will be an outside force trying to penetrate your personal area.  Depending the location and where you are will give you some insight to where it might occur. Wind is often associated with the spirit and messages.

Typhoon, Cyclone or Weather

Similar to the hurricane if you encounter this in your dream their might be a possibility that you will be able to see “danger” coming your way? The color of the atmosphere might give you some insight to what mood you might be feeling.

If it is dark and gloomy it will reflect on the mood you will experience during the storm.  Did you notice anything flying in the wind?   A small detail such as your car (personal drive) being taken in the wind could hint at what might be under attack with you.  If there was a rainbow that means there is a guide looking out for you when this is happening, a more positive symbol.

Boat or Ship Tornado Dream

Some dreams involve being on a boat and encountering a tornado. The meaning can change as we would consider the water as the “unconscious” mind of the dreamer.  The waves would be considered emotional disturbances that haven’t been sorted out by the dreamer.  Lots of repressed emotions might appear as a tornado coming directed towards you so you can acknowledge it.

Psychic Warning?

Dreams of this magnitude are usually forewarning to what might future events might occur in the future. People who tend to experience precognitive dreams are more likely tuning into turbulent events that will unfold in the near future.

Eye Of The Storm

Being in the eye of a storm can be a deceiving symbol as you are just safe for the meantime.  This is the time you need to look “eye” at what might be taking place currently in your life. For example if one might be in an abusive relationship they might appear to be in the eye as a safe place for the moment but are truly stuck in the middle of something more dangerous.

About Tornadoes Dreams

Generally tornadoes form when hot air meets cold air. Basically warm air rises, but when the two fronts meet, the cold air can trap the warm air beneath it. Because the warm air cannot move upward, it begins to rotate. As the sun heats the ground, more warm air continues to rise, until finally the mass is strong enough to push through the cold air barrier.

How it forms might be a metaphoric translation for trapped feelings and emotions that are now going to come to the surface. You need to be more aware of your emotions and what effects it might cause being unaware. This could very well mean that you are not ready to explore your shadows, or like Jung coined “shadow work”.  This is all the repressed feelings that we hide deep in our unconscious and now the dream might be wanting it to come to the surface.

I had a dream I was in a tornado. I was in a rich persons home I think the bathroom to do some work, maybe sheetrock. While at the top of the stairs I noticed stucco walls that seems unfinished. The person I was with, I think my boss ( someone I have never seen) sent me for kosher salt. I went into the kitchen and was looking for salt. Other people started coming in the kitchen as I realized I was naked. I remember feeling self conscious that the people would think “it” was small. Then i went in an unfinished room. I… Read more »

The bathroom connects to the root chakra (see chakra dreams) about releasing or letting go of something within you. The house belongs to your psyche/mind – bring rich might contain some unconscous element you should explore. This probably why this room was unfinished – the kitchen usually leads to transformation. I think you can also explore feelings of being self conscious. What area does this seem to represent in your life. Being naked tells you that you might be exposed or vulnerable in this manner. It seems based off of the end part that you might have overcame it. See… Read more »

I Dreamt that I was standing on the porch of a trailer home, not mine, and the people unknown to me. I was so emotional about the landscape in front of me because it was mid ream to own land like that. I was giving the girl advice telling her that you cannot force things to happen. Suddenly I looked over to my left and a large cloud, almost like a mountain of black clouds with red molten lava were blocking out anything I could see. As I stared I noticed that a portion had broken free and this molten… Read more »

Hello Karen. I find one part of the dream very symbolic is the fact you looked to the “left” and saw something negative. Usually in dreams the left is perceived as negative or things that may have been metaphorically left; opposite of what is right. Now you did tell a girl (might be you) advice “cannot force things to happen”; the landscape belongs to the unconscous part of you. You may even want to examine if this relates to someone you know. The kitchen (transformation) and the bathroom (root chakra, holding in or letting go) emerges in your dream. So… Read more »

Apartments in our dream are symbolic in the sense they appear to be related to things we metaphorically build in our lives; a sub construct (mind/psyche) relating to principles, relationships, beliefs (see building dreams in the search bar). The phone might be related to communication or to remember something; a symbol that might even take you back to the past. The dream might have something to do with your family – a force that has built up and now coming to threaten this so called area in your life.

I dreamed I was outside of our house, I think on our porch as I only saw myself under a roof with wooden posts. I hear a loud noise, then I come to on the wet ground of the yard. The sky is dark like dusk and a purplish color. All I can see are the dark silhouettes of trees broken off, even the huge ones that once stood 50 feet high have the tops gone. I begin calling my husband’s name. I don’t feel pain, but I can only crawl. Dizzy and disoriented, I begin crawling through the yard… Read more »

If the house relates to your psyche you might wan to explore “myself under a roof with wooden posts” relating to support (wood a symbol of something grown or developed in your life in the past). The wet ground could be related to stagnant emotional states that hasnt fully absorbed. The wood, wet ground and trees seems to be all connected (see tree dreams). Trees are very symbolic representing of the dreamer relating to growth. I am not sure what the fingernails mean exactly but its very important. It seems to be connected with the top of the trees being… Read more »

My wife was in bed sleeping and I was watching the news when out of nowhere, she screamed and it was really loud. She woke up the entire house and scared the dog. I asked her what she was dreaming about and she explained she was in the woods trying to get home to warn us about the tornado but she was running in slow motion. We dont live in or near any woods. She also said she could see the tornado heading straight for our house.

Hello Doug. The woods or forest often emerges as a symbol of the unknown or unconscious part of the dreamer (see forest dream meaning). The psyche will incorporate these symbols, often times metaphorically as a coded message; even though you might not be around these particular settings. Now it seems she is either picking up on something (tell her to trust her intuition) relating to a threat that might emerge outside the field of consciousness. What could this be? I would need more details about the dream. If she is running in slow motion it might in fact be related… Read more »

I dreamed my son ( when he was younger) and I were in a car running from many tornados. I finally pulled over to someone home and only so many people could fit in crawl space so I put my son in there and I could not fit. The tornado hit and crushed the crawl space and I was giving my son cpr and woke up! I’ve dreamed of tornados before and a plod but assuring voice told me many storms were coming and he would be beside me.

Interesting. The fact that your son was younger could it be related to you still protecting him (mothering him) in some way when something bad unfolds? The crawl space shows restriction but you cannot fit.

In my dream, my mother, sister, and myself were together, moving into a semi familiar house. We were outside the house when hail hit us. As we were trying finish getting things inside when I could see the tornado forming just meters away from us. I was trying to wrangle them inside while my mother was more concerned about getting a picture. Once I go them in the storm cellar of the house, right as the tornado began tearing apart the far end of the house, I realised that the pets (two cats and a dog) weren’t with us. I… Read more »

Months ago I had a dream of a huge wave, and everywhere I went the wave would follow. I started at the ocean and then went to the desert to escape the huge wave. But no matter where I turned, the wave was there. And I knew what was coming was inescapable and bad. But no matter where the wave was, I dove into it and came out the other side fine. So I knew the wave was important to me, but not me, myself. A month later my mother was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and died three months… Read more »

I dreamed about tornados last night. A very muddled dream where my friend may of died unlated to the tornado. There must of been at least 6 tornados and no matter what direction I turned there was one. I hid in a unused caravan and could see them through the flapping door that wouldn’t close. Some passed by so close the noise was terrible and also very quiet. One did pick us up and throw us around the person that was in there with me im not sure if i knew them. But I survived and then all of a… Read more »

I had a dream that my husband and I were driving home from the country/lakeside part in our county, and all of a sudden a tornado was right in front of us. My husband had to turn down a side road, and we ended up at a house that the people inside yelled and said we could come inside and wait it out. Then we saw a second tornado roll right passed the house. There was a lot of rain, but the only destruction was with trees and bushes. We were able to leave shortly after, as the tornadoes were… Read more »

I had a dream of a tornado, but me in my two kids was inside the house. One of my kids was looking out the window he was much younger in the dream. I saw a red flashing light gleaming and loud noise through the window my son was in, and I heard strong winds so I immediately told my son to get out the window and I gather them both inside a closet , to take cover, inside the closet I was praying for protection and holding there hands with our heads kneel down, seem so real I can… Read more »

Like most tornado dreams you will need to determine where exactly the threat is emerging from, I can only help pick at the dream. The red light flashing could be related to a stop light/stopping/caution or warning. If you are putting them in the closet you are confining them, hiding them, protecting them from a threat. Now its possible that this could be something that happened, might appear in the distant future, relating to covid – or – the tornado represents unconscious aspects of yourself. You can research the devouring mother and see if their are any correlations.

I dreamed of a tornado this morning. I was in a building with other people and I saw it through a window. We all took cover under a large workbench and the dream was so real, I could feel the wind on my face. I’m sure the air I was feeling was my ceiling fan but we were all fine and the tornado passed without doing any damage.

Interesting. The good thing is it passed with out doing any damage. I have noticed many people online dreaming about tornadoes and I think it relates to covid. However this might not necessary be the case with you. The building is symbolic to a structure in the psyche. The windwind is also very symbolic.

I saw more that one scene with a tornado. I was not afraid and I was watching from inside of a building each time. The last one I remember, I could see four tornadoes in front of me. They were lined up side by side not touching the ground but not combining into one (which I’ve actually seen two merge into one in real life) and I remember thinking I wonder why they aren’t merging together. 3 were the same size and 1 was smaller.

I had a dream last night. I was at the beach with my ex boyfriend and his cousin. It was beautiful, the sun was shining, the water was clear. In the distance I could see a water tornado forming. It was white and light blue. It was getting bigger and moving faster across the water. My ex boyfriends cousin and I got up and started running. My ex stood there and he let the water tornado suck him up and then it body slammed him on the sand. And then the water tornado disappeared. Yet it was still sunny out… Read more »

Did you notice that you got up and he stayed. Could this represent how you left? If you broke up with him the tornado would be symbol to a force that comes out of nowhere. I am not saying this is the case but if you think metaphorically you would be able to piece it together.

He was a complainer. Had many unresolved issues in his life. Drank alcohol to numb the pain. Complained about life. Was never thankful or grateful for what he did have, a house, a great job that he was awesome at, friends, family, a girlfriend who cared very deeply.
