The Pythonidae, commonly known as pythons, are one of the largest non venomous snakes that are found in warmer climates in the world. Unlike your typical snake that displays a venomous tactical strike, the python however uses a different type of skill.
If pythons dwell in the tropical areas of Africa and Asia and are spotted only in rainforests, savannas and deserts, why did it appear in your dream?
Your dream has delivered you a message in the shape and form of a “python”, you will need to explore how you interacted with it, as well understanding its natural behaviour. It’s specific characteristic can be translated metaphorically.
The extreme nature of the python contains both positive and negative traits in your dream, they may emerge as symbols of transformation, or possibly a person ready to constrict the life out of you.
Python Dreams
Pythons tend to emerge in our dreams usually found in a house, attacking, chasing, of just noticing its large presence. The python offers the dreamer many clues that will help them understand who or what it might represent.
Now if you are attacked by a python in your dream you will need to figure out if this is a treat from the outside, or related to your unconscious instincts, drive and impulses that pose danger in our lives.
Alternatively if you are being chased by a python you are avoiding or not confronting something dangerous in your life. It remains unconscious to you until you turn and face it.
Since these snakes can grow up to 20 feet long it suggest that this threat has been growing for a long time. It belongs in places you cannot identify with encouraging you to explore the unknown.
Identifying The Python
They are considered ambush predators, in that they often remain motionless in a camouflaged position waiting to strike the unexpected victim. Do you know someone who has set an carefully planned intricate trap just for you to come close? Maybe it suggests to watch your movements in your walking life as this attack might be planned in the future.
After they’ve grabbed their prey in their long teeth, pythons kill it by constriction. The constriction is a key symbol that brings the dreamers attention things that metaphorically suffocate them. These can be people, places or aspects of themselves that they are unconscious of that is causing them a lack of movement.
- Toxic relationships.
- Inability to move (metaphor for places you are restricted in life).
- Once you are trapped it can devour you whole.
- A cold blooded person waiting to trap you.
Most python species have heat-sensing labial pits to aid them in finding warm-blooded prey. This might be a representation of cold blooded people that look for victims to leech off of your energy.
Due to their share size, pythons move by scooting forward in a straight line. This is called “rectilinear progression” direction that helps you identify what might be straight in front of you.
Python Dreams: Transformation
Even if the python has a threatening presence in your dream it also contain healing properties attached to it. Pythons are known for power, improving weakness, strength, to over come pain and hardships in our lives.
You can look at them to be guides that provide you with protection along your path, its grounded in nature allows you to become close to earth energies (life force/prana/chi/kundalini)
Another important key symbol is its ability to shed its skin hence why it has been used as a symbol of internal rebirth. By shedding its skin represents death of the old, for new life – inner transformation.
Python Symbolism
Python, associated with Greek mythology, a huge reptile that was killed by the god Apollo at Delphi as it didn’t want him in the oracle, being accustomed itself to giving oracles, or because it had persecuted Apollo’s mother, Leto, during her pregnancy.
In Botswana, San ritual practices surrounding pythons date back 70,000 years. Considered the python is a sacred creature that is highly respected.
In Ghana the python is represented in folklore as a helper to save people from their enemies by transforming into a log to allow them to cross a river.
I dreamt a python slithered into my room right on my legs, it got up to strike at me. My baby laying next to me cried out. I woke up in the same exact position and my baby next to me actually crying. I could still feel the weight of the snake on my legs. The very next morning, I felt pain my right knee and feet where the snake was on.
5 years later, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. My pains migrate from joint to joint like something squeezing them.
I Dreamt last night a yellow python in our second floor house giving birth with lots of baby snake, she did’nt bite me just flowing in our house, and it continue when i sleep again, but then i decided to go out with my youngest son and my ex husband to go to the mall but suddenly my tooth started to pull out then i rush to the bathroom and when i threw it my hand then suddenly i saw nothing on my hand? then i wake up.
I dreamt last night that of a python wrapped around someone and suffocating them. I tried to stop it but couldn’t. It scared the life out of me and I woke with my heart racing.
I had a dream that I was at the house I grew up in (that’s still in my family and I still visit at times but not as much since I lost my mother 4 years ago). There was a python outside (maybe 6 feet), but then there was a giant python inside (like 20 feet). There was a man there (I feel like i know him but can’t figure it out who it was). My daughter was in the living room sleep, but the snake was blocking one of the doors to the living room. It stared us down… Read more »
I’m not happy that others are experiencing this, but pythons have come into my room for years. I thought it was just me and that I am going crazy. I’m so petrified from the dreams that as recently as last night I woke from my bad dream and closed the windows despite the fact that it was a warm evening. The dreams feel real as if one is actually going to sneak into my home and come right into my bedroom. Why am I having the dreams? This is the first year that I cannot sleep when I have such… Read more »
The dream seems to be related to your unconscious fears or urges (bed) that are not fully intergrated within you. Tell me more about the dream.
I had a dream of a phython outside my house it was still then it saw my dog and it grabbed him. I called my brother and he came outside and fought it off my dog . Then all i saw was my dog and brother fighing off the phython. I was scared and worried so i ran to try to help but then i stepped on something hard amd gooey . i look down and see a bird nest i stepped on the egg crushing it and kill a bird i was so scared ,ashamed and sad i ran… Read more »
We need to figure out who or what the python is in your dream because it remains hidden to you. Dogs are known as our best friends, instincts, urges and even things we are in search for. Now your brother might have emerged related to a specific situation or event that transpired. The shape of an egg tells you about completion/protection/mother/nurturing/reedom that has been destroyed by mistake. A clue emerges since you are ashamed and “running back”. This will mirror this situation your life.
Recently my grandmother passed away on 27th of April, on 30th of April I dreamed I saw 3 pythons inside my grandmother’s house. 2 was inside the bedroom which is I used to stay and the other one was at living room. One of pythons tried to attack me but I manage to ran away. After than I seek for help to catch the pythons, someone came but the pythons sneak inside the wardrobe.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your grandmother. Anytime a snake is inside the bedroom it becomes a very powerful omen. Now since your grandmother recently passed it is quite possible that the snakes emerged – the wardrobe being feelings, expressions or attitudes (relating to image) that are contained. So it shows that these feelings are held within an you need to figure out how to get them out. If two where in the bedroom it might be pointing at transformation (two snakes and kundalini). Remember you are seeking help. This is showing you that these feeling remain unconscous… Read more »
Had the most weird and vivid dream. I was swallowed by a python (I could see the huge mouth engulfing me..but the inside of its mouth was yellow colour) and then it was cut open by a man and I was saved. We look at each other and next second its back to scene one where I’m swallowed by the python again and then it is cut open yet again. This kept repeating in loop. The man in the dream happens to be in my office but we have never interacted till date nor do I have a crush on him.
Being swallowed by the snake is a very powerfully symbol (see oruobous) of transformation or cycle of rebirth. The man that saves you might be connected to your inner masculine (see animus).
I was in possession of a piece of land till someone came with a document that the land was his. he claimed he went to pray over the land and anointed it. The very day i stepped on the land , i came home to take a shot nap and that was when i saw a python roaring at me in a dream. Three years after i am saddled with a sickness i can’t explain
Can you explain your sickness?
still being investigated please. Any advice please
I am a little confused. You mentioned you have a sickness that you cannot explain why is that? Is this part of the dream or in real life? Where did you see the python in your dream?
I had and dream where I was raking leaves out of a ditch in the ground. After clearing up some of leaves I saw eggs the size of a fist at the bottom. There were about 2 or 3 of them. I could tell from right away that they were reptilian. I keep uncovering the nest and see a sort of tunnel at one end. I see a large reddish brownish snake like a python slithering towards me. I get out and reach higher ground as the snake is attempting to get out. When its finally out I see it… Read more »
Very symbolic. The ditch may be related to the past – feeling, emotions, rid of something or someone, something thrown away or discarded. If you are cleaning this area that was covered (metaphor) that remains unconscious. Now you will have to figure out who or what this is relating to. The fact you uncovered something gears me to think this relates (personal unconsciousness) relating to your home (nest). You are being chased trying to get to higher ground (clue) and the tunnel = birth, womb, vagina (feminine energy/base chakra) activation; moving up to higher level. Now you have the leaves… Read more »
But can the nest be something else. For example my work place.? Now that I reflect on it. The workers in the field gave me the feeling like they were coworkers from real life. I couldn’t see them but the energy I felt was as if I knew them from work? Just a thought. Thanks for the reply. I haven’t had a dream this vivid in years.
Yes, the nest may have multiple meanings. They say you are your own best interpreter. I would trust your gut feeling and go with it.
I had a dream that a child threw a python on me. The python then curled on my laps and refused to leave. I kept trashing it and it still find it way back there.
The child might in fact be you, or your inner child. You must understand why curing it will stop self sabotage. The dream remains unconscious too you.
what if the python was pregnant and still?
Well it depends on the context of the dream and where you saw the python. Do you have anymore details?
it was alongside a road just lying there,i
ts color was black and brown-the typical one, i passed by to nd fro while it just lay there
What if the python was, kind to me? Like.. I held it and it liked me?
It would be considered a positive dream symbol. It might connect you to your inner energy that contains healing properties. Can you provide me with more detail if possible?
I had a dream that my dead grandmother was standout side a Hugh house on the front porch. She watch me on the distance and before I could get close a big large pythons slithers in front of her. She grabs the head and they begin to fight. At one point the high snake body is wrapped around her but he still has a hold on the head. People start to come I don’t know and help get the snake from around her. I’m freezing just looking. By the time they get the snake off she had hit the snake… Read more »
